IEM Cologne 2025 Playoffs: Teams, Fixtures, Preview, and Predictions
After two weeks of intense Counter-Strike action, six teams earn the right to step into the LANXESS arena. These final contenders will now compete for the ultimate glory—the IEM Cologne title.
Let the action in the Cathedral of Counter-Strike begin…
Teams & Format
Only 6 out of the 24 competing teams have survived the IEM Cologne competition. These are:
- Group A
- Group B
The group winners are directly seeded into the Semifinals. The remaining four teams play each other in the Quarterfinals to stay alive.
All the games played will be Bo3 until the Bo5 Grand Final.
Playoffs Preview & Predictions
Quarterfinal fixtures:
MOUZ vs. FURIA (August 1 07:00 pm CET)
Throughout their cologne journey, FURIA dispatched a number of stronger squads, including Team Falcons — a super team built to win trophies. Safe to say the international experiment of the Brazilian org is paying dividends.
Now they face their biggest challenge yet—MOUZ, a well- drilled squad that excels at executing and punishing mistakes. Playing them will not only challenge FURIA's macro, but it will put the team's synergy under a microscope.
If FURIA beat MOUZ, it’d not only help their confidence, but solidify their position as a team on the verge of breaking through to the top of the Counter- Strike world. But we expect MOUZ's experience and tactics to reign supreme, helping them secure a semifinals rematch against Team Vitality.
The MongolZ vs. Natus Vincere (August 1 03:45 pm CET)
Despite qualifying for Playoffs, Natus Vincere's performance can be best described as inconsistent. More often than not, the squad relies on iM to save them. But when they find their rhythm, they can prove to be a challenge.
Their opponents, The MongolZ, have shown strong performances leading up to the Playoffs (let's forget the Vitality match), and if they do not choke, they are much better than their opponents. If the individual form of their players stays consistent, they have a strong case for taking down Team Spirit and securing a second Grand Final appearance.
Will Team Vitality be defeated in Cologne?
Out of the remaining six teams, three are the closest to taking town Team Vitality.
First, MOUZ, who will likely get the first shot at Vitality, often tremble at the sight of the Major Champions. Even if MOUZ is having an particularly phenomenal tournament (cue IEM Dallas), they struggle against Vitality.
Second, Team Spirit often finds itself out of depth, especially on the CT-side. And there's only so much donk can do against a stacked roster like Vitality's (last time even apEX won a 1v1 against donk).
Lastly, The MongolZ, who lack depth at times but also individually struggle, are the closest to taking down Team Vitality. A good day for all their players and strong counter-stratting can give Vitality a run for their money.
Unfortunately, Vitality does not look vulnerable at the moment. They were the weakest at the Major and still won it. As things stand, they look ready to add another trophy to their cabinet.
